A wood burner or multifuel stove provides a beautiful focal point for any room but there are many other benefits obtained by installing one: As wood is a renewable source of energy, it is considered as carbon neutral. That is, providing the wood you burn is acquired from managed woodland, which is replanted, the carbon dioxide produced from burning the wood will be absorbed by the replacement trees, which will then release oxygen.

Wood fuel is very cheap in comparison to that of gas and electricity. A kilowatt of heat produced by a wood burning stove costs about one fifth of that of electricity and about one third of oil and gas. Plus if you don’t mind a bit of foraging in the countryside there is plenty of free wood to be acquired from windfall trees! Wood burning and multifuel stoves are very reliable.

Unlike gas and electric fires they do not require any electricity to operate. With the unpredictable climate and increasing uncertainty over gas supplies, power cuts could become more common in the future. With a wood burning stove, you won’t have to worry about feeling cold in the middle of winter.
